The Center was established in October 2000 as a response to the influx of refugees from conflict-torn areas around the world with histories of human rights violations. It is the only center of its type in Michigan.
ACCESS Center for Psychosocial Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture’s mission is to help torture survivors heal their wounds, restore their dignity, alleviate the suffering of the victims and their families, and help them achieve successful integration in their community. The Center adopts a holistic, community and family-based, psychosocial rehabilitation approach to help enhance the quality of their lives. The program strives to raise awareness about the plight of torture survivors and human rights violations.
